Gutters in Ludlow, Hung to Carry Water Away

We install and repair gutters and downspouts so rain moves off your roof and away from your foundation. One person walks the job with you, writes the estimate, runs the work day and checks the cleanup. You always know who to ask.

What Gutter Work Does for Your Home

Gutters have one job. They catch water at the roof edge and send it somewhere safe. When they sag, clog or come loose, water spills over the edge. It soaks the fascia board, splashes the siding and pools by the foundation.

Most gutter trouble is not the gutter itself. It is the wrong size for the roof, too little slope, hangers spaced too far apart, or a downspout that dumps water right at the wall. We look at all of that before we suggest anything.

Sometimes a few new hangers and a resealed corner are all you need. Sometimes the run is past saving. We tell you which one it is and why.

What the Work Includes

One-piece gutter runs

We form each run as a single length, so there are no joints along the middle to leak. Seams only fall at corners and ends.

Sizing to your roof

A steep or large roof sends a lot of water to one spot. We check roof area and pitch, then pick a gutter and downspout size that can keep up in a hard rain.

Slope and hangers

Each run gets a steady fall toward the downspout so water does not sit. Hangers go in close together and into solid wood, which keeps the gutter from pulling away under snow and ice.

Downspouts and extensions

We place downspouts where the water can go somewhere useful. Extensions or splash blocks carry it away from the foundation instead of dropping it at the wall.

Fascia check

The fascia board carries the whole gutter. We probe it along every run, and any rot gets its own line on the estimate. That way nothing new is screwed into weak wood.

Repairs and guards

For gutters with life left, we reset sagging runs, reseal leaking corners and end caps, and clear clogged downspouts. We can also talk through gutter guards if leaves are your main problem.

Signs Your Gutters Need Work

  • Water over the edge

Water sheeting past the lip in an ordinary rain points to a clog, a gutter that is too small, or a run that slopes the wrong way.

  • Sagging or pulling loose

A gutter that dips or leans out from the roof has lost its hangers or the wood behind them. Winter ice makes this worse fast.

  • Stains and peeling paint

Dark streaks on siding or paint flaking near the roof edge mean water is running where it should not.

  • Wet basement or washed-out beds

Water in the basement after rain, or mulch washed away under a downspout, often traces back to where the gutters drop their water.

  • Leaking seams and corners

Drips from joints, rust spots and gaps at end caps tell you the sealant has failed.

How a Gutter Job Goes

  1. 1

    The estimate visit

We walk the outside of your home with you, measure each run and check slope, hangers, fascia and where downspouts drain. Afterward you have it in writing, line by line: footage, corners, downspouts and any wood repair.

  2. 2

    Scheduling

The same person who did the estimate sets the date and lets you know what to expect. If weather moves the day, you hear it from them.

  3. 3

    Take-down and prep

Old gutters come down and go straight into our trailer. We check the fascia and fix any bad wood we agreed on before anything new goes up.

  4. 4

    Install and test

New runs go up with proper slope and close hanger spacing. We run water through them to confirm it flows to the downspouts and out the extensions.

  5. 5

    Cleanup and walk-through

We pick up screws, scraps and old sealant from the yard and driveway. Then we walk the job with you so you can see the finished work.

What Moves the Price

The number on a gutter job depends on the footage we measure and the shape of the wood the gutters hang on. We take those measurements on site and list each item separately, so nothing is lumped together. After the visit we go over the quote with you by phone and leave you the written copy to keep.

Total length and corners
More feet of gutter and more inside and outside corners mean more material and more time.
Height and access
A two-story or three-story wall, a steep slope in the yard, or tight spaces between houses take more ladder work and setup.
Fascia condition
Rotted fascia has to be replaced before gutters go back up. We cannot see all of it until the old gutters come down, so we tell you up front if we suspect it.
Gutter and downspout size
Larger gutters and downspouts cost more but handle heavy rain from big roofs better.
Guards and extras
Guards, added downspouts and longer extensions raise the total. If your trees and roof do not call for them, we say so and leave them off.

Gutter Questions We Hear

Something not covered here? (859) 214-0694

Can my gutters be repaired, or do I need new ones?

Often a repair is enough. If the runs are straight and the metal is sound, we can reset hangers, reseal corners and clear downspouts. If the gutters are badly bent, rusted through or too small for the roof, new ones make more sense. We show you what we see and let you decide.

Why do my gutters overflow even after I clean them?

Usually the slope is off, the gutter is too small, or there are not enough downspouts for that section of roof. A steep roof can also shoot water past the gutter in a heavy storm. We check all of these on the estimate visit.

Do winter ice and snow hurt gutters?

They can. Ice is heavy and pulls on the hangers, and water that freezes in a clogged gutter can back up under the roof edge. Close hanger spacing and a clear path to the downspout help a lot. If we see signs of water getting under the shingles, we will mention a roof inspection.

Are gutter guards worth it?

It depends on what lands on your roof. Homes under big oaks or maples that fill the gutters every fall get the most out of them. If you have few trees nearby, a cleaning once or twice a year may be all you need. We look at your trees and roof and give you an honest answer.

Will you be in my house during the job?

No. Gutter work is all outside. We may ask you to move a car or open a gate, and we keep the driveway and walkways clear while we work.
